A conversation prompted by the black metal VENGEANCE show held in Bloomfield, New Jersey. In this episode, we explore the complex history of skinhead subcultures. We discuss the origins of skinhead culture, the emergence of anti-racist skinhead movements, the rise of white supremacist groups that attempted to appropriate the scene, and the ongoing struggle over music, identity, and community. This episode examines these histories through a critical and educational lens and does not endorse hateful or extremist ideologies.
If space is a means of production, then every music scene is also a struggle over who gets to produce culture.
